The Texas Legislature is a bicameral body comprising of an upper House Texas Senate with 31 members, and the lower Texas House of Representatives with 150 members. The legislature controls the activities of the government and also has strong connection with the the Lieutenant Governor of Texas. The legislature meets in regular session starting on the second Tuesday in January of each odd-numbered year.
In the Eightieth Texas Legislature, which met in regular session beginning 9 January 2007, all the members of the House of Representatives and 16 members of the Senate were up for election on 7 November 2006. The District 98 of the House of Representatives of the State of Texas of the Eightieth Legislature is represented by Vicki Truitt. Vicki Truitt is the Chairman of Budget and Oversight for the House Committee on Public Health, and sits on the powerful Appropriations Committee. She is also the Vice-Chairman and one of only five House members serving on the influential Sunset Advisory Commission. As the Vice-Chair, she leads Sunset activities in the House. She is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Texas Office for Prevention of Developmental Disabilities.
